Northwest Boychoir

Northwest The Northwest Boychoir, with more than 175 members ages 6 to 18, is regarded among the absolute best boychoirs nationwide. Officially proclaimed the state’s “Singing Ambassadors” by Governor Christine Gregoire, the Northwest Boychoir has performed in Europe, Great Britain, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, and throughout the U.S. The Choir recently concluded a national tour to the East Coast, performing throughout Washington D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia, with a special performance at the magnificent Washington National Cathedral. The choir received standing ovations and rave reviews. One audience member stated “From the moment I heard their first note, I thought I\’d died and gone to heaven!”

The Northwest Boychoir is frequently asked to perform with Seattle’s leading musical ensembles. In February, the Northwest Boychoir joined with the Seattle Symphony for a special performance of Orff’s Carmina Burana and at their Presidents\’ Night at the Symphony in May. This season the Choir will again perform with the Seattle Symphony for performances of Carmina Burana and Mahler’s Symphony No. 3. In March we were invited to perform at the prestigious American Choral Director’s Association Convention in Portland, where we sang Mozart’s Missa Brevis in F Major, in celebration of Mozart’s 250th year to standing ovations. In May the Northwest Boychoir collaborated with Music of Remembrance for a production of the Hans Krasa’s children’s opera Brundibár, under the baton of Gerard Schwarz. This performance will be released nationally under the Naxos label.

The Northwest Boychoir is frequently contracted by Hollywood producers and composers to record for movie soundtracks and video game productions. The Choir has received praise for its performances on the soundtrack for the movie Millions, by world-known director Danny Boyle. The Northwest Boychoir was also featured prominently on the soundtrack for SeaWorld Florida’s spectacular new show, Blue Horizons. Another major accomplishment of last year was being selected by renowned Sound Designer Nick Phoenix to be recorded for his Quantum Leap Symphonic Choirs sample library. As a result of this vast recording project, film composers and sound designers now use our voices worldwide. The Northwest Boychoir recently performed with the acclaimed tenor Carl Tanner in his holiday recording, Hear The Angel Voices soon to be released on Sony Classical. The Northwest Boychoir has produced four holiday recordings, the most recent being ’Tis The Season. The combined sales of these albums exceed 50,000.

In its 34 years, the Northwest Choirs has trained thousands of young singers and more significantly, shaped the lives of our youth by providing important life lessons in personal commitment and the value of teamwork and diligence. Our members represent 115 diverse public and private schools in King County. Joseph Crnko, now in his 22nd year as music director, leads a staff of professional educators and musicians in implementing a rigorous curriculum of music theory, voice production, sight-singing and performance skills as well as development of professional standards and artistic excellence. Auditions are held twice yearly for new membership.
