The What:
Christmas in the Northwest Volume 10 will be released on November 1, 2007. This all new CD compilation includes original compositions and new arrangements of well known Christmas standards.
Many of the songs have a significant background, including:
“Blessed in the Northwest” - an original song, sung by multi-platinum recording artist and Kirkland native, Stacie Orrico. “Blessed in the Northwest” celebrates the many blessings we encounter every day here in the Pacific Northwest and pays tribute to Brenda Kutz White’s classic song “Christmas in the Northwest”.
“I Wanna be Blake (I Wanna be Sanjaya)” sung by WannaBe Idolz - a light hearted salute to our Northwest American Idol finalists.
“I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” sung by Kids from Cougar Ridge - a unique swing arrangement of this timeless holiday classic sung in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Russian, Spanish and English by a choir of 1st through 4th graders who attend Cougar Ridge Elementary School in the Issaquah School District.
“Mary Did you Know” sung by Greg Otterholt, the former weatherman on Bellingham TV station KVOS. Greg, born without a left arm, is a very versatile and talented musician who spent much of his youth at Seattle’s Children’s Hospital.
The Why:
The inspiration for the CD project is the result of a tainted hamburger. At the age of two, Alex Lawson (daughter of Steve and Debbie Lawson) was admitted to Children's Hospital, suffering from E.coli. The Lawson's were so impressed with the treatment their daughter received, along with the care they received during their family crisis that they wanted to do something in return for the hospital. So, they enlisted the help of Northwest musical artists to put together a CD featuring their contemporary arrangements of original songs and Christmas favorites.
The first Christmas in the Northwest album, which included the hit song “Christmas in the Northwest”, was released during the 1985 Holiday Season and was quickly followed by Volume II in 1987. 2007 marks the release of 10th Volume in the Christmas in the Northwest Series.
Since 1985, more than 170,000 CDs have been sold resulting in donations to the participating hospitals in excess of $750,000.
