CHRISTMAS IN THE NORTHWEST HOLIDAY SPECIAL
FEATURES SANJAYA

SEATTLE – American Idol finalist Sanjaya will be featured on the Christmas in the Northwest holiday special debuting Saturday, December 8, at 8pm on KING 5, and airing across the Northwest through the month of December.  Hosted by John Curley, the hour-long special includes a sampling of music from the “Christmas in the Northwest 10” CD, a compilation of original and traditional holiday songs performed by local musicians.  One of the tunes from this year’s CD is a light-hearted tribute titled “I Wanna Be Blake (I Wanna Be Sanjaya),” performed by WannaBe Idolz.  During the show, Sanjaya himself will join WannaBe Idolz in a surprise performance.

Other artists performing during the show are Brenda Kutz-White, Greg Otterholt, Courtney Jones, Marika, Central Services and Danielle Hunich.  Also featured is a new swing arrangement of “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” performed in six different languages by students from Cougar Ridge Elementary School in the Issaquah School District.

The Christmas in the Northwest Holiday Special airs throughout the Northwest during the month of December.  A full list of air dates is available at www.christmasinthenorthwest.com.

Net proceeds from the sales of “Christmas in the Northwest 10” benefit Northwest children’s hospitals: Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in Seattle, now celebrating their 100th anniversary; Children’s Miracle Network in Spokane, Wash.; St. Charles Foundation in Bend, Ore; and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Ore.  Since the release of the first CD in 1985, the total net proceeds that have been provided to children’s hospitals have reached approximately $750,000.

“Christmas in the Northwest 10,” retails for $13.98, and is available throughout the Northwest and online at www.christmasinthenorthwest.com and Amazon.com.

The concept for “Christmas in the Northwest” and Children’s Music Fund originated when Steve and Debbie Lawson’s daughter Alex was admitted to Children’s Hospital at the age of two.

“We were so impressed with the treatment she received, we wanted to find a way to give back,” said Steve Lawson, founder of Children’s Music Fund, Inc.  “We enlisted the help of Northwest musical artists and put together a CD featuring contemporary arrangements of original holiday songs and Christmas favorites.  Alex is now married and works on this important project by my side.”

Children's Music Fund, Inc. is a non-profit Washington corporation whose purpose is to raise money for children's hospitals through the sale of the “Christmas in the Northwest” CD series.  Children’s Music Fund’s objective is to provide funding so that every child has access to medical treatment, regardless of their family's ability to afford the cost.  For more information on Children’s Music Fund and the “Christmas in the Northwest” series or to listen to song samples from previous albums, please visit www.christmasinthenorthwest.com or www.myspace.com/christmasinthenorthwest.
