« Return |
Steve Lawson worked in broadcasting, recording and related fields since before he graduated from the University of Washington in 1975. In 1969 at the age of 16, Steve began his broadcasting career as a volunteer announcer at KRAB - a listener supported radio station in Seattle. In 1972, while attending the University of Washington Steve moved over to KBES, an AM/FM broadcasting combination in Bellevue Washington. In 1973 he became the youngest on-air personality on KING AM, a top rated Top-40 radio station. In 1978 Steve became production director of KING AM, leaving in 1979 to open his own company, Steve Lawson Productions.
From 1979 - 1999 Lawson Productions became one of the largest audio complexes on the west coast. In 1990, Lawson partnered with Ann Wilson, and Nancy Wilson of the rock group HEART, to build Studio X - recognized as of the finest recording studios in the world. Lawson and the Wilson sisters sold Studio X 1979, and the rest of the facility in 1999. In 1999, Steve began working for Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen at Vulcan Northwest, as Director of Studios, overseeing much of Paul Allen's musical interests. Lawson left Vulcan in 2001 to pursue consulting, artist management, and creative productions for corporations, broadcast, and consumers.
Lawson served as President and Chairman of SPARS (The Society of Professional Audio Recording Services), on the board of KidsAuction to benefit Boys and Girls' Clubs of King and Pierce County, and was saluted by the YMCA of Greater Seattle as Program Volunteer of the year in 2001. He has won numerous creative awards including the Silver Micorphone, One Show, and an Emmy Award.
